Exhausted but Happy!

its wednesday today, so yup, i had lab session today straight after the course lecture from 10am to 12noon. First lesson was on gel electrophoresis, which we have done in year 1, so was relatively easy for us as we know the procedure and the principles behind the method.

i didn't have a lab partner initially, because all my friends have already paired up and i signed up this lab just because i am interested in the project given. So at the very last minute, i told the teaching assistant that i don't have a partner, what a big mistake, he actually announced it to the whole lab class! wa lau, at that moment i hoped there is a hole that i can just hide away. actually he know of another girl who doesn't have partner but he couldn't remember that girl, so he used the microphone to look for that girl, even seconds before he did so, i was praying hard that he would just suddenly recall. but anyway, alright lah, wasn't really such a embarrassing thing to not have a partner, its not like i don't have any friends what. somemore i got to know new friends, including those sitting around the same bench. my lab partner seems to be smart and well knowledged, friendly too!

i like to work with smart people, especially those who are decisive and confident, because it will influence me somehow, even if it is a pseudo-effect, i feel better anyhow. furthermore, it generates better discussion, like what we had today! woah, that means i gotta do some research next week before lab!

loading of dye into the agarose wells were fun, always fun. my hands were like trembling because the gel is damn fragile and if u anyhow poke, u might just spoil the whole experiment and have to start from scratch again! and if you release the pipette too fast, the dye might flow out and contaminate the other wells. so exciting right! then why did i say its fun, because its so cute to see some blue dye being held in the more or less invisible well in the colourless agar.

i asked my teaching assistant to give me more chance to practise doing this right and neat, and my partner is very encouraging too. so everything went alright still =)
i used to hate lab because i think its so bothersome, must wear gloves, lab coat, and must take note of so many safety aspects and be very precise in measurements. but maybe, maybe i will begin to love lab work from now on. i think i have to, right? if not, why study life SCIENCE?
